My Schedule at ReaderCon, July 7-9

As previously mentioned, I will be at ReaderCon 17 this weekend, from Friday, July 7 through Sunday, July 9. Here are the events I’m scheduled for:

  • Libraries in Imaginative Literature (Panel) — Friday, 5:00 pm
Borges’ Library of Babel is perhaps the best known, but the repository of knowledge (especially the repository of all knowledge) is a common element in stories of the fantastic. They’re obviously useful as plot devices, but they are attractive to writers and readers for many other reasons.
  • The Fiction of China Miéville (Panel) — Friday, 7:00 pm
Miéville is a young writer who is taking fantasy in bold, politically engaged new directions. He’s best known for his multiple award-winning (two Arthur C. Clarke Awards and a British Fantasy Award) New Crobuzon trilogy: Perdido Street Station, The Scar, and Iron Council.
  • Autographing Session — Sunday, 11:00 am
I’ll be signing copies of Infoquake alongside Alan DeNiro, author of Skinny Dipping in the Lake of the Dead.

While I’m at Readercon, I’ll be giving away free Infoquake CDs containing all of the material that’s currently on the website. For those keeping score at home, that means:

  • Chapters 1-5 of Infoquake in Word, PDF and text
  • Audio podcast of chapters 1-4 of Infoquake in MP3, WMA and Ogg Vorbis
  • Complete appendices from Infoquake in Word and PDF
  • Large JPEG image of the Infoquake front and back cover

And you want cheap promotional tactics? I’ll give you cheap promotional tactics. Come find me in or near the bar at ReaderCon any point this weekend, mention this blog post, and I’ll buy you a beer. Really! I don’t care who you are, or whether you’ve bought a copy of Infoquake yet; if you’re at ReaderCon and have an interest in science fiction, then I want to meet you. Just come up and introduce yourself (and be over the age of 21, of course), and you’ve got yourself a ticket to the Beer Express.

(Author reserves the right to make that a pitcher of cheap-ass domestic beer if this starts getting crazy. Author also reserves the right to high-tail it out of the bar and pretend to not see you if he runs out of money.)

See you at ReaderCon!
